A Great Article
i stumbled across this article today on of my favorite non-photography blogs(43 Folders). I have a slight organizational problem in my life. Anyhow, I thought this summed up how us non natural photographers feel about the craft.

I think "courageous sucking" sums up my photography quite well.

Day 149- Ft.Howard
It was such a beautiful day today I wanted to get outside. I was sick of my normal spots, so I thought I would scout out a new location. I went to Ft.Howard in Edgemere Maryland. Ft.Howard is a 19th century fort that was converted into a park in the 1940's. The fort portion of it is overgrown. This is a shot of a door to an old artillery battery, that overlooks the mouth of the Patapsco where it empties into the Chesapeake Bay.

Black & White Holga
The downside to shooting film is that it is not instantaneous. This photo was shot during my excursion to Mount Vernon last week. I hope to have more up later today.

Day 131- Downtown Parking
This was taken with my iPhone from a garage in downtown Baltimore. There was a storm in the background that never hit the city.

Day 130- Cylburn and the DMC-TZ5
We recently purchased a new point and shoot, a Panasonic DMC-TZ5. I have not really had a chance to play with it yet. So I decided to take it out today to one of my favorite places Cylburn Arboretum, here in Baltimore. It is a place I have been to quite a few times with my D50. One of my favorite pics so far from 366 was taken here.
So my experience with the camera was pleasant. It has no manual controls, which took some getting used to because I usually shoot with my D50 in manual mode. The nice thing about a point and shoot is that you can just shoot. I did not have to worry about getting a correct exposure. I could just frame the shot and go. The huge LCD is amazing. I am used to shooting with a 1.5" LCD on my D50. This camera has a 3.0". On the downside there is no raw shooting. The slight tweaks you can make with Raw really go a long way towards a great photo.
All in All it was a fun time. I now realize how outdated my D50 is becoming.
Day 128- Mount Vernon
I made my first trip to Mount Vernon today. Which is kind of amazing since I have lived in the DC-Baltimore area for more then 10 years now. Besides the oppressive heat, and big crowds in it was a good time.
Day 122- 8 x 10
Wow two photos in the same week I am on a roll. This was shot at the 8 x 10 club in the Federal Hill section of Baltimore. The artist was Jerry Joseph, not bad for a iPhone shot indoors with no light.

Technical Difficulties
Sorry for the lack of posting recently. I have been having technical difficulties with my computer, that is slowing down the process of sorting through pics to a crawl. I hope to have it fixed soon. In the mean time the posting will be sporadic.

It's been a few days
So it has been a few days since I have last posted a photo. The good news is that I have been taking them, the bad news is I just have not had time to post. So prepare yourselves for a few days worth of stuff.

Day 73- The Light Has Arrived
I finally got my new strobe setup in the yesterday. I have been playing with it all day. The results so far are two things that I dislike self-portraits, pensive looks. I hope to be able to play a little bit more on Thursday.

Day 72- Impressions of Loch Raven
Tonight's photo comes from sunset at Loch Raven. The blur comes from moving the zooming the lens in out during exposure(Thanks Mike for the inspiration). This is one of those photos that is best viewed large so click on it, and check it out on flickr.

Day 70-Game Night Traffic
Tonight I ventured into the heart of Orioles and Red Sox traffic. I shot this at about 9:00. I love night shots of cities.

Day 69- This Is Birdland
Tonight's photo was taken inside Camden Yards at the O's Redsox game. The Red Sox's ended up winning the game by three runs in extra innings.

Day 68-Hard Drive Painting
This is my last light painting post for awhile, I swear. This is a light painting of the external hard drives I have connected to my computer. The green light is from an Apple Airport Express I have connected below my computer.

Day 67-Flame
This being my 67 post to the blog, I have learned a few things about my photography. One is that I love doing macro shots, and two low light shots are great, especially when there is fire involved. Tonight's shot is a combination of the two.
Day 66- North Central Railroad
This butterfly followed me for a good portion of my hike on the North Central Railroad trail in Northern Baltimore County.
Day 65- Bromo Seltzer Building
This is a photo of the landmark Bromo-Seltzer Building in downtown Baltimore. It was shot around sunset, from the passenger side of a moving car.

Day 64- Chocolate Memorial Day Bunny
While attending a barbecue at a friends house, I noticed this enormous plastic chocolate bunny. If you look closely you will see a couple of yellow ribbons tied around it. What better to support the troops then with tacky lawn furniture.

Day 63-Fire Painting
Light painting was so much fun last night, I decided to try it again tonight. This time (Kids don't try this at home) I added a little fire into the mix. Actually it was a Bic lighter.
Technique #1- Light Painting
I have already gotten a lot questions about last night's photo. Light painting is a very simple technique, there are just four requirements a tripod, a flash light, a camera that at least allows you to have shutter priority, and the ability to manually focus. If you have an DSLR this is not a problem, depending on which point and shoot you have it gets tricker.
For last nights photo I used my Nikon D50 on a floor mounted tripod, with a 50 mm 1.8 lens. If your camera supports full manual mode you want to start there. I chose a shutter speed setting of 30 seconds, and an aperture of F9. The longer the exposure the better for light paining, you also want to choose a middle aperture so the flash light does not give off too much light.
I found a neutral spot in the room, that I could focus on easily. Turn of the lights. I triggered my shutter using a remote, but you can just hit the shutter button. I turned on my flash light and twirled in front of the lens. The key here is to shine the flash light in front of the lens. If you do it from behind you will just illuminate your background.
A long exposure such as 30 seconds allows you to move in and out of the frame to create ghost like effects. Flashlights can give off different kinds of light. I used an LED flashlight for these shots.
Just remember to experiment with different settings, the beauty of digital is you can reshoot it as many times as you would like. Last night was the first time I ever tried light painting, and I got good results after my second try. Give it a go.

Day 62-Light Painting
Tonight time was running out to get a photo in. So I tried a technique called light painting. I think it turned out pretty well. If you look closely you can see a ghostly image of myself.
Day 61- Gundpowder Revisted
This was my second trip to Gunpowder Falls State Park this year. I snapped this shot of a hawk? about 10 minutes into my hike.
Day 60-Cylburn Arboretum
Two months into this project and still going strong. Today's photo comes from Northwest Baltimore at the Cylburn Arboretum. There were storm clouds rolling in, as you can see. I decided to convert to Black & White because it suited the mood better.

Day 59- Aguila
This is the side of a six pack of Columbian beer I enjoyed last night. I shot this is near darkness with just by flash, and a little ambient light from a window.
Day 58- Blue Sky
This is photo is the complete opposite of yesterday. This was taken with my D50 through the car window. Notice no noise, and the sky is a perfect blue.
Day 57- Purple Clouds
Today's photo is an example of why camera phones suck. This shot was supposed to be of ominous grey storm clouds, but they turned out purple. You can also see an incredible amount noise.

Day 54- Tea Light
Last night was the closest I have come so far without taking a picture. I took this at 11:40 or so. It was a late night at work.

Day-52 G9 Tryout
I am in the market for a new point and shoot, and thanks to Adam I got to try out a Canon G9 today. I took it for a spin on my lunch break. There is not much to shoot at noon in the burbs. The sidewalk however always makes for a good shot.

Day-52 Rainy Traffic
pouring rain. Add that to the fact I just got home from work, and you
get a rainy shot of traffic.

Day 51-City of Brotherly Love
Philadelphia is a beautiful city. Known as the City of Brotherly Love, this shot is one of those tourist photos that you have to take.
Day 50-Philadelphia Traffic
Wow I cannot believe it has been fifty days already. This shot was taken from the window of my hotel room in Philadelphia. The night photography practice in Baltimore paid off.
